Graphite Drawing of Emily

"Searching" graphite, 14x11

I still feel so new to traditional media and I'm sure I will continue to feel that way. It is a bit scary trying to learn so much at once but it is also very exciting! There are so many possibilities...

Northern Cardinal Painting

"Brown Bear" oil on panel, 9x12

I am lucky enough to have many backyard visitors, including northern cardinals. I started giving them silly "descriptive" names to identify them, hence the name "Brown Bear." This isn't quite the direction I want to go with oils but I still had a lot of fun painting this friend.

Drawings and a Painting from '08

Here are a couple drawings and a painting done near the end of 2008.

charcoal sketch, 17x14
This is a quicker sketch done of my best friend Emily, who also happens to be an amazing artist. I tried using vine charcoal on bristol but I cannot say that I liked how the charcoal felt on the bristol, plus it wouldn't really erase...

"Reflection" graphite on paper,20x16

"Pensive" oil, 18x14
This is one of my first attempts at oil painting using the same lovely model. It's such a fun, yet incredibly frustrating medium, but I am really enjoying the learning process (even if it feels like learning how to draw all over again..........).
